17 Oct What is Live Resin or Rosin?
Live CBD resin is a type of cannabis concentrate that is produced using a unique technique. When a farmer harvests fresh cannabis it is frozen to a subcritical temperature prior to and throughout the whole extraction. By freezing the plant straight away when it’s harvested, the farmers are skipping the drying and curing phases. Drying and curing flower is very difficult, what the plant undergoes can have a devastating impact on the cannabis compounds and terpenes.
What are Terpenes?
Terpenes are the compounds that account for the flavor and aroma of cannabis. They are presented in the trichomes, which surround the CBD flower during its flowering cycle. Each terpene this plant makes has various medical properties and benefits. It’s best to try and preserve as many as one can.
So why freeze and not press in normal resin?
By freezing the plant immediately after harvest, the cannabis plant will retain its valuable terpene and cannabinoid profile, original fragrance, and flavor. Ultimately the plant never dies since it hasn’t gone through the drying a curing process. During the drying and curing process, the cannabis plant wicks itself of moisture and chlorophyll. Trichomes are subjected to adverse conditions such as increased exposure to oxygen, heat, and light which all degrade terpenes.
What does Live resin look like?
Like all cannabis concentrates live resin is extremely sticky, it’s typically a dark yellow. It’s sometimes called wax butter because it’s more malleable. it sits somewhere between a sauce and a wax not too we and not quite sticky.
